REVIEW: Morbius

PG-13 • Score: 2/10

So, this movie isn’t good. Yes, it has its (brief) moments—but perhaps the most disappointing part is this movie could have been excellent, and has a really intriguing story concept. It falters badly in its execution.

(Edit for clarity: I so badly wanted this movie to be great—the trailers looked great and Mrobius is a really interesting character. But they dropped the ball, in my view.)

The highlight of the film is pretty straight forward: It has a great first act, but everything after that is less than stellar. The opening shots are beautiful and in many ways cinematic.

However, it’s an uneven mess of a movie starting in the second act, both from a story standpoint and visually. The CGI is some of the worst I’ve seen, the editing choices poor. And the acting, as a whole, is unwaveringly boring and uninspired.

I could go on, but I will leave it there.

The bottom line: Dark and intense, with little payoff. See it if you want to stay on top of all the Marvel movies, but don’t go in expecting a wonderful work of art. 2/10
