REVIEW: The Lost City

Rated PG-13 • Score: 9/10

What a predictable, interesting, joyful adventure this was—the most fun I’ve had at the movies since Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered in December, and for entirely different reasons. It’s romantic comedy at its finest, packing a big punch with strong material and great performances all around, particularly when it maintains its focus on the main storyline.Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum deliver endearing performances in the film, which clearly draws inspiration from Romancing the Stone (1982). They have a strong chemistry on screen and play off one another quite well, particularly in the more serious moments of the film—Tatum shows here how much he’s grown as an actor over the years.Likewise, Daniel Radcliffe is excellent throughout the film as the antagonist. And Brad Pitt is *chef’s kiss* so good in his limited role. The script could have been a bit tighter—there’s more than a few plot holes, but those are easy to overlook given the cast’s chemistry and the flow of the film. The supporting characters are charming, even when they fill the roles you’d expect to find in a movie like this. The bottom line: Full of innuendo, intrigue and moderate violence, this movie comes together in a really enjoyable way. It’s delightful and a worthy watch, particularly for those who love the tropes of romance novels and films. 9/10
